The virtual motorsport game that brings spinning to your home

This driving simulator will keep you entertained for hours provided you can figure out how to get it to work.

We visited the Wheelz n Smoke arena In February 2020 for Revved up Sunday hosted by Bad Company.

An event thrown on the last Sunday of every month where spinners come to spin legally.

At this event we captured a clip of Austin Kruger spinning Eric Maswaya’s BMW E30.

Some weeks later a fan shared a clip of himself playing a game where he mimicked Austin’s every driving move.

This video prompted us to review this not so new video game by the name of Live for Speed.

We don’t usually game often because making video content is very time consuming,

but since lock down has started we have much more time on our hands though.

What is Live for Speed?

According to Wikipedia Live for Speed (LFS) is a racing simulator developed by a three-person team comprising Scawen Roberts, Eric Bailey, and Victor van Vlaardingen.

It has been developed for use on Microsoft Windows only.

The main focus is to provide a realistic racing experience for the online multiplayer game and to allow single player races against AI cars.

Users can set personal bests which can then be uploaded to LFSWorld in hotlap mode, and take driving lessons in ‘training’ mode.

LFS is entirely distributed via the Internet. It can be downloaded and installed for free from the official website, but unlocking all of the features requires purchasing a license.

Without a license it functions as a feature-limited demo, with only one track and three cars available.

Once we figured out what game was and where to find it we tried to install it and configure it on our own.

We searched google to see where to find mods for the game,

and we discovered there were plenty of websites which offer free mods.

Obviously for car spinning the BMW E30 is the most popular car mod so I found one and added it into the game.

I followed all the Youtube tutorials I could but my game did not work as expected.

My car looked weird – it had white windows and a very weak 1.8 litre 4-cylinder engine.

Many of the download sources to unlock the game were from untrusted sites.

I was not prepared to download files from potentially harmful sources.

When I tried to upload other cars the game started giving skin errors so a frustrated me gave up.

How to download Live for speed  for spinning

At this point I realized I would need some help so I reached out to some friends who already play the game.

One of my friends referred me to a business called LFS Mechanic.

I spoke to a young man by the name of Tshireletso Takalo (19) from Limpopo known as Tshirell_325 in the game.

Tshirell_325 currently lives in Ga-Mphahlele and he has been playing the game since 2015.

He explained that the game runs on computers only.

“In the game we do multiple things related to motorsport.”

“We spin, drift, Drag race, stance & we also do park off”, said Tshirell_325

“On the Spinning side we build engines for our cars and challenge other guys when we play online via multiplayer.”

He said “On the stance and park off side we make our cars more beautiful so that we can enjoy our rides.”

He proudly exclaimed “we even have air suspensions on the game.”

When you download the game from the Live for Speed website they have Version 0.6U

Tshirello explained that his version does not support E30 mods thats why my windows were white

He sent me the link to download the correct version of the game.

I can almost certainly guarantee that most people will have problems installing this game at your first try.

This is why LFS Mechanic started a Facebook profile where a network of guys can you give game support.

They use the Team Viewer app to help you remotely if you are not confident enough to follow their instructions.

How to unlock Live for Speed S2?

The easy way to setup is obviously to pay for your licence on the Live for Speed website to unlock features.

Alternatively there are different sites that offer unlock files to jail break S2.

I followed the steps in this video and it worked for me.

When S1 and S2 are unlocked you have access to 90% of the maps (Custom tracks) on the game.

To unlock s3 you have to create free account at

You can speak to one of the LFS Mechanic‘s to help you set up S2 and S3.

The LFS Mechanic can also help you get setup for playing the game online.

How to connect a Playstation 4 controller to your laptop

Once I had managed to unlock S2 the first difficulty was learning the controls.

You can either use the mouse to steer, accelerate and brake in conjunction with keyboard to change gears.

Alternatively you can use the keyboard to steer which is trickier because you use four buttons to steer accurately.

My control option of choice has been my been my Playstation 4 bluetooth controller which was so easy to use.

Setting the controls can be a bit tricky at first but once you practice it gets easier.

The Reason I like the Playstation 4 control is because the steering and accelerator axis can precisely controlled.

If you only push the analog halfway to the left the turning circle will be smaller.

The same applies for the accelerator sensitivity.

This video shows how simple it is to connect your controller.

If you don’t have a PS4 controller, Xbox and most wired or bluetooth controllers can work.

We watched some of the videos on Youtube of some of the setups that guys use for drifting in the game.

It just makes me want to buy a steering wheel setup knowing this will keep my son busy for hours on end.

How to upgrade your engines?

To upgrade your engine is pretty simple but you will need another tool called a Pro Tweaker.

You can watch the video below which explains how to set up your car with Pro Tweaker.

The Pro Tweaker helps you change the configuration of the car.

>> Click here to download Pro Tweaker for version 0.6R of Live for Speed. <<

This includes but is not limited to upgrading your engine, gearbox, rims and much more.

The Pro Tweaker will give your car no rev limiter.

To make your car limit you will need another application called a Rev Bouncer.

The attached video shows you how to use the Rev Bouncer.

The cars sound much more natural when the Rev Bouncer is running, especially on a BMW E30.

Just keep in mind that when you use a Rev Bouncer your the games replay function won’t be able to work.

How to add custom car mods and skins onto your car?

If you search Google you will find that there are mods for almost every car out there.

The game also gives you the option to add custom that you can make on your own with Photoshop.

As you can see we used the attached image to make our own Skid Marks M Tech 1 template.

To use the template just copy it into your skins folder on drive where you installed the game.

We are also giving you this BMW E30 M Tech 1 blank template to use if you want to make your own skin,

and as an added bonus we have also included some popular engine tweaks for spinning.

These tweaks have been carefully made to imitate the real power outputs.

The attached video shows you how to install custom car mods and skins.

How to create your own Maps (Tracks/Pitches)

Once your game has been unlocked you will also be able to create your own custom maps using a range of default objects.

This adds another dimension into the game because you can create a replica of your favourite spin pitch.

We decided to create our own map and call it the Skidmarks Burnyard.

You will see that there are two pitches on the map, one for beginners and then a more advanced one for pro’s.

We have had hours of fun using this map and we would like you to share it with you so you can enjoy it too.

Once you download the file just copy it into the LFS data folder on the drive where you installed the game.

We hope that this article has helped you on your way to becoming a professional armchair spinner.
